Andriesen, Simon
Simon Andriesen is managing director of The Netherlands-based MediLingua, specializing in the localization of medical technology, biomedical, pharmaceutical, clinical trial and health-related information. He also manages Leesbaarheidstest.nl, which is a company specializing in readability testing of patient information, and coordinates and teaches a series of courses on medical and pharmaceutical translation. He has been part of the localization community since 1980 and was a founding member of INK, one of the first localization firms in Europe. Simon is a member of the advisory board of the Medical Round Table of the Localization World conference.

Baster, Grzegorz
Grzegorz Baster completed his university education in psychology in 2002 and joined EUTECert Co. Ltd. team in 2007. He is now head of the Department of EN15038 Certification Consultancy and IRCA auditor. Grzegorz has over ten years of experience as co-auditor to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. He is fluent in English and German.

Benoit, Geert
Geert Benoit holds an MA in Chinese and Japanese languages. He spent his first two professional years in Taiwan and Germany as a programmer of automation programs in the textile industry (Barco Industries). Geert then spent two years completing additional language and business studies in Japan with an EU Commission scholarship (ETP). From 1992 through 1997, Geert worked in the localization industry (INK, Lionbridge) and as a freelance technology consultant for the Japanese market. In 1998 he started Yamagata Europe (Ycomm Europe at that time) as a daughter company of the Yamagata Group.

Bernal, Miguel
Miguel Bernal is one of the few academics who has started raising the issues of game localization and the necessity of doing research into the topic in order to improve overall quality and turnover. He is currently lecturing in media translation in London and working on his Ph.D. in the translation of video games. He has several publications on translation and is now in talks with the two universities he works for in London to formally introduce game localization within their translation studies programs. Miguel also created the L4G mailing list with a view to bring people together to discuss game localization issues.

Bolen, Kevin
As chief marketing officer, Kevin Bolen leads Lionbridge’s global marketing and is responsible for setting market direction, solutions management, competitive positioning and brand promotion. Kevin joined Lionbridge in 2005 through the acquisition of Bowne Global Solutions where he had served as the vice president of marketing since joining in early 2002. Prior to Bowne, Kevin led the marketing function at LexiQuest, Inc., and before that he spent six years with IBM Global Services, where he held a variety of roles spanning consulting, corporate development and marketing. Kevin holds a BBA in international business from Pace University and an MBA in marketing and management from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Boorman, Chris
Chris Boorman joined SDL International in August 2006 as their first chief marketing officer. In this role he is responsible for all worldwide marketing operations — with particular focus on driving the brand awareness of SDL and expanding its global enterprise marketing initiatives. Chris brings more than 15 years’ marketing experience to SDL International. Prior to his current position, he worked as vice president of marketing for Salesforce.com and VERITAS Software where he was responsible for European marketing. Chris has a doctorate in engineering, a master’s degree in cryogenics and a first-class degree in physics from Southampton University.

Boxma, Henk
Henk Boxma is a software architect at Medtronic SQDM in Arnhem, The Netherlands. He has worked as a consultant on various technologies. Having always been interested in languages and other cultures, it is no coincidence that he took the initiative to implement a unified solution for localization within Medtronic.

Bredenkamp, Andrew
Dr. Andrew Bredenkamp, CEO of acrolinx GmbH, has over 17 years' experience as a technical consultant in practical applications of language technology, especially in content production and knowledge management. Until starting acrolinx at the beginning of 2002, Andrew was head of the Technology Transfer Centre at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) Language Technology Lab. He has initiated and led projects with globally active customers in the telecommunications, banking, engineering and software sectors.

Brockmann, Daniel
Daniel Brockmann, senior product manager at SDL International, had this role at TRADOS before the merger with SDL. Daniel joined TRADOS in February 1994. Initially he worked as a training and support specialist, sales engineer and documentation specialist, among other roles required in a fast-growing company. He also played a vital role in establishing the worldwide TRADOS operations by training the various emerging TRADOS offices on the company's software solutions. Today, Daniel manages the SDL Trados translation memory product line, including applications such as SDL Trados Server, SDL Trados Synergy, SDL Trados Translator's Workbench and SDL Trados TagEditor as well as key subcomponents such as QA Checker and Terminology Verifier.

Caesar, Matthias
Matthias Caesar studied mathematics and computer science at University Dortmund and University College Dublin and joined the localization industry in 1994. Since then, he has been a tools and process trainer, project manager and, since 1999, managing director of Locatech GmbH in Germany. He serves on the board of the Globalization and Localization Association as secretary. He is also a board member and general manager of LCJ EEIG, a group of four European localization companies co-founded by Locatech in 1999. Matthias has served as a board member of The Institute of Localisation Professionals and as the deputy president and international officer of the Junior Chamber International of Dortmund from 2000 to 2004.  

Combe, Karen
As vice president of localization at PTC, Karen Combe is responsible for product localization as well as localization support for global services, technical support and marketing. During the past seven years, she has implemented a complete localization solution for PTC, including an internationalization program, development of localization tools for emerging technologies, effective outsourcing partnerships and the creation of a globally distributed localization testing team. She manages a localization group of 60 people located in the United States, India, China and Japan.

Cutler, Sonia
Sonia Cutler is a part-time lecturer on scientific, technical and medical translation with translation technology (MSc Trans) at Imperial College London where she teaches terminology, digital publishing and the history of translation. She is also the coordinator of the Imperial College Translation Centre and has been in charge of organizing and delivering professional development workshops as part of the MSc Trans. She also delivers a core module in "Translation Tools and the Translator" as part of the MA in applied translation studies at London Metropolitan University.

DePalma, Donald A.
Donald A. DePalma is an industry analyst, author and corporate strategist with expertise in the business-focused and marketing-focused application of technology. He lectures, writes and is frequently quoted on the topics of online marketing, content management, multicultural marketing, localization, return on investment and website globalization. His book, Business Without Borders: A Strategic Guide to Global Marketing, is widely used in universities and in business training courses. Since 2002, Don has led Common Sense Advisory's research into the best practices, technology, and professional services that support business globalization.

Depraetere, Heidi
Heidi Depraetere is a director and co-founder of Cross Language Nv, a consulting, system integration, language and translation technologies company based in Belgium. Heidi has more than 15 years' experience in the translation and localization business. She is familiar with the evolution of the industry from CAT tools to the newer globalization technologies including workflow systems, machine translation and hybrid translation solutions. She has created and worked with international teams from different nationalities throughout Europe and the United States.

Dürr, Andreas
Andreas Dürr has been a member of the across team from its inception. In his position as marketing director, Andreas is responsible for outbound communication and strategic partnerships. He looks back on many years of experience both in IT and marketing. He is active in various panels and is co-founder of the Forum ITC.

Ehrlich, Norbert
Norbert Ehrlich is manager of service publications for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East at Deere & Company European Office, Mannheim. He started with Deere in 1969 in sales promotion at its export organization located in Mannheim, Germany. After a short period of time in the service department, he became involved in the processing of service publications. He was named manager, European Service Publication (ESPD) in 1977, the position he still holds. Since 2003 this department has been responsible for editing/translation and publishing of factory-prepared technical publication manuscripts furnished by the Deere Agricultural authoring centers for global use. This responsibility was extended in 2005 to cover the translations of the same kind of publications to support products manufactured by the Deere Power Systems Group.

Fenstermacher, Hans
Hans Fenstermacher is vice president of Translations.com (part of the TransPerfect Global Group) and president of the company’s ArchiText division. Born in Germany, Hans speaks six languages and holds degrees from Princeton University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. His 25-year career in the language and writing industries led him to create ArchiText’s ABREVE process (patent pending), a proprietary English content globalization system designed to reduce content volume, enhance content usability and maximize content efficiency. Hans is an associate fellow of the Society for Technical Communication. In 2002 Hans co-founded the Globalization And Localization Association (GALA) and served as its first chairman.

Goldschmidt, Daniel
Daniel Goldschmidt is a software engineer on the Google Internationalization Team. For more than 15 years, Daniel has been engaged in software development. As a professional in the globalization of software and content field, he has extensive experience in the internationalization and localization of large-scale enterprise applications and projects. Prior to joining Google, Daniel worked as a freelance internationalization and localization consultant. He holds a BS in computer sciences and mathematics and a MS in computer sciences, both from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

Gladkoff, Serge
Serge Gladkoff Serge Gladkoff graduated from a Russian ivy league nuclear science college and for more than seventeen years has been engaged in the localization industry, first as a deputy director for a software distribution company Dialogue-MEPhI, then as a localization manager of Moscow office of Borland International and for thirteen years, as the owner of the Logrus International Corporation.

Harris, Kim
Kim Harris is co-owner and managing director of text & form GmbH, a language solutions company in Berlin, Germany. Kim studied French and German at the University of Toronto and moved to Berlin in 1986 to complete her language studies. Prior to co-founding text & form GmbH in 1996, Kim worked as a freelance technical and localization translator and co-managed the English translation department of a large German translation company. Kim has published several articles and spoken at a number of events on various topics, including trends in the localization industry, the future of SMEs, quality standards and industry metrics.

Hartenfels, Tilman
Tilman Hartenfels is an engineer of automation technology. During his time with Siemens AG, he was active in various departments as sales director. After taken over responsibility for e-business, he went into process management. In the wake of this task, Siemens Translation Services was restructured. He introduced a completely new and standardized workflow along with the integration of state-of-the-art tools. A centralized system was also launched for both, the pre-sales and post sales process. Since 2005, he has been manager of the Siemens Translation Services.

Hecht, Thomas H.
Thomas H. Hecht holds a degree in international business administration and translation/interpretation and has 14 years of experience in the translation and software localization business. He is a corporate technologist at SIEMENS Automation & Drives with expertise in the business-focused and quality-focused application of automation technology.

Henes, Ulrich
Ulrich Henes is the president of The Localization Institute which he founded in the fall of 1996 because he saw a serious lack of quality training and learning opportunities in this important area. He has been involved with localization, first as an international sales and marketing manager (also serving as a localization manager) for a US software company and then as president of the American office of a British localization agency. He is a co-organizer of the Localization World conferences.

Heuberger, Andres
Andres Heuberger is president and founder of ForeignExchange Translations, which provides multilingual compliance solutions to the device and diagnostics industries. In the translation industry since 1991, Andres manages ForeignExchange’s major accounts, implements production systems and technology strategy, and oversees the company’s ISO 900x certification efforts. He regularly writes for European Medical Device Manufacturer, IVD Technology, MX, and Software Business.

Hilgenberg, Kurt
Kurt Hilgenberg, consultant and publisher of books and periodicals in the area of IT and innovation management, is teaching media sciences at the University of Berlin and the University of Rome. He has developed a method of knowledge scoring and a supporting software tool.

Hollowood, Fred
Fred Hollowood is the director for global language services within Symantec’s global localization department based at the Blanchardstown site in Dublin. He received a B.Sc. in chemistry from Queens University Belfast in 1975; a doctoral degree (natural sciences) in 1978 from University College Cork; and an MSc in information technology in 1985 from the University of the South Bank (London). His career in localization commenced in Xerox Welwyn Garden in 1988. Fred has held a variety of positions in the industry both on the publisher and vendor side culminating in his appointment to Symantec in 1997. He currently runs a global team covering language production for Symantec. Included in this group are personnel dedicated to the discovery and implementation of novel language technologies. He currently is a post-doctoral research engineer and additionally, a Ph.D. student within DCU to further research in these areas.

Idström, Sylvia
Sylvia Idström works with the standardization of terminology and style for User Interface Localization, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, Lund, Sweden. Previously, Sylvia worked within the pharmaceutical industry as a medical editor. Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Sylvia holds a degree in modern languages and has over 20 years’ experience within the fields of training, translating and editing.

Ito, Aki
Aki Ito, vice president at TOIN Corporation, has been involved in the localization industry since 1996 in many different aspects of localization activities such as sales management, operations management, project management, Japanese language management, and consulting and translation memory tool management at different companies, including Prisma International, Lionbridge Technologies and DDS Global Media. He has served as the chairman of the board for the Globalization and Localization Association. Prior to the localization industry, he was an account executive at Dell Computer in the United States. and Japan, selling personal computers and networking solutions to multinational companies for their worldwide implementations. Aki has an MBA in international marketing and a BA in international relations.

Katic, Helle
Helle Katic has been employed in the IT industry since the late 1970s, first in Toronto, Canada, and later in Denmark. Her experience spans IT operations, through programming, systems design and analysis, database administration, technical writing and finally product translation. Helle has been with Oracle for 10 years, first as a language specialist primarily dealing with supporting the translation of Oracle products from English to Danish, and for the past four years as a member of the Translation Support Team in the capacity of senior process manager. The Translation Support Team is responsible for supporting the worldwide Vendor & Language Services Group in translation processes, translation tools, terminology management, development, language echnology, business process analysis, project management and tools training.

Kaufman, Ilia
Ilia Kaufman is founder and president of KCSL Inc., a software company that for over 25 years has been creating language technologies such as spell checking and grammar products. Ilia, who received a Ph.D. in systems design from the University of Waterloo, is credited with the publication of a dozen scientific articles and holds three United States patents. His and KCSL’s current focus is the development and implementation of pragmatic computerized machine translation and localization systems.

Keigher, Paul
Since taking over the position of CEO and creating the OneWorld Localization Center in 2000, Paul Keigher has overseen a steady investment in people, solutions and technology at Tek. The OneWorld Localization Center is now a proven model of operation that has realized substantial growth and allowed Tek to centralize all operations and technology. Tek continues to invest heavily in technology and process under Paul's leadership, and Tek's platform for globalization will continue to be a primary technology focus. Prior to taking up the role as CEO at Tek, Paul served at Tek for 18 years in technical management roles.

Kumar, Rakesh
Rakesh Kumar is a mechanical engineer with masters degree in design and production and completed his research work on system dynamics modeling in 1984. He worked as a management consultant; held teaching assignments; managed a 100% export-oriented offshore software development center of a German firm located in New Delhi, India; and worked in senior positions in the IT sector. He is currently director of operations at Braahmam Net Solutions Pvt. Limited, an e-learning and localization service provider located in Noida, India.

Lamoureux, Claude
Claude Lamoureux is quality manager at Wallac Oy, PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences. Under his direction, PerkinElmer has successfully addressed the life science industry's need for highly regulated multilingual instructions for use while integrating high-quality and standardized processes. Claude has served in several positions on the multilingual service providers' side and also in developing similar services within PerkinElmer. He holds a B.A. degree from Concordia University in Montréal, Canada, as well as a Masters degree in translation studies from Turku University in Finland.

Lancaster, Mark
Mark Lancaster is chairman and chief executive officer of SDL, which he founded in 1992 after having identified the need for a high-level service provider for the globalization of software. He was a founder director of LISA (Localization Industry Standards Association) with which he continues his involvement. Mark graduated with an HND in electrical and electronic engineering and was employed as a design engineer at Satchwell Control Systems. He then progressed his career as a project manager at Lotus Development Corporation and later was the international development director with Ashton-Tate. He is responsible for the strategic development of SDL.

Massion, François
François Massion graduated in 1986 with a Ph.D. in lexicography from the University of Erlangen (Germany). He is owner and general manager of D.O.G. GmbH, a company specializing in localization and documentation services.

Meijering, Gerdien
In 20 years of professional experience, Gerdien Meijering has worked as a freelance translator, language lead and project manager in the localization industry, until joining SAP in 1997. The SAP years led from the role of linguistic expert via managing the local Dutch translation department to her current position of resource developer in the Business Partner Management team of SAP Language Services, focusing on agency talent scouting for the Nordics and French on the one hand and developing the SLS Certification Concept as the other key initiative.

Nedoma, Andrzej
Andrzej Nedoma joined Lido-Lang Technical Translations in 2001 and completed his university education in 2003 in the field of management and marketing. Now development manager at Lido-Lang, Andrzej is responsible for the implementation of the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system and co-author of XTRF comprehensive management system for translation agencies. He is vice president of the EUTECert Managing Board. Established in 2006, EUTECert Co. Ltd. is the European Institute of Information Technology and Certification. Andrzej is fluent in English, French and Italian.

Nedoma, Jurek
Jurek Nedoma started in the language industry as a freelancer in 1971 and completed his university education in 1973 in the field of materials science. In 1991 he established a private, family-owned company: Lido-Lang Technical Translations, which specializes in translations of technical, medical, legal, commercial and other texts in over 300 language combinations. He is now CEO of Lida-Lang and president of the EUTECert Managing Board. Established in 2006, EUTECert Co. Ltd. is the European Institute of Information Technology and Certification. Jurek is fluent in Russian and English.

Niederer, Lutz F.
Lutz F. Niederer has been involved in localization since 2000. After completion of his English/Chinese undergraduate studies at Berlin’s Humboldt University, Lutz continued to study at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in Monterey, California. He graduated from MIIS in 2000 with an M.A. in translation (English/German/Chinese). Since then, Lutz has been working as senior language specialist in San Jose, California for eBay’s German language websites (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), where he is in charge of linguistic quality, vendor management. He also acts as a liaison with eBay’s Berlin office.

O'Maolain, Eoghan
Eoghan O’Maolain has been involved in training and teaching for more than 15 years. He worked with SkillSoft in instructional design, technical authoring and subject matter expert roles and was instrumental in the development many of their successful courses. In London he worked as a technical training consultant with the Royal National Institute for the Blind. Eoghan is currently director of eLearning development with Rendition Digital.

Parrish, Donna
Donna Parrish is coorganizer of the Localization World conferences and publisher of the magazine MultiLingual. Prior to her work at MultiLingual Computing, Inc., she was a computer programmer for 25 years. Donna holds a degree in mathematics from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.

Pellet, André
Andre Pellet joined Welocalize in 2006 through the merger with M2 Enterprises where he was president of the 28 year-old firm. As a University of Maryland engineering graduate with a specialty in computer science and as an industry veteran, Andre brings over 20 years of business experience and leadership to the Welocalize executive management team. He currently works with key strategic accounts and teams on the development of new services and offerings.

Pokorny, Conrad
Conrad Pokorny has 20 years’ experience in the translation and localization industry. Until recently, he was the owner and managing director of INK Sverige which was acquired in February, 2007, by Semantix in Sweden. Conrad now has a position as senior advisor at Semantix.

Pyne, Christopher
During the past 22 years, Christopher Pyne has worked as a technical translator, agency manager, consultant and managing director within the translation industry. He has always taken a keen interest in translation technology and is the proud owner of a Multiterm 1.0 version on a 5 ¼" floppy disk. Chris is currently global partner manager for translation partners at SAP AG and together with his team is developing the SAP Translation Ecosystem with over 60 agencies.

Quintero, Arturo
Arturo Quintero, co-owner and chief corporate strategist at Moravia Worldwide, is based in the company's corporate headquarters in the Czech Republic and spends extensive periods of time in other Moravia Worldwide locations in North America, Europe and Asia. Currently, Arturo is a member of the board of directors of The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP) and helps other nonprofit associations in an advisory role.

Redfern, Neil
Neil Redfern graduated with a MSc in scientific, technical and medical translation with translation technology in September 2006, having completed an MSci in physics the year before. He specializes in technical translation from French into English covering areas such as physics, IT, transport and the environment. He has also started teaching translation technologies at Imperial College London. Since February 2007, he has been delivering a module in electronic translation tools as part of the BA in Applied Translation at London Metropolitan University.

Renberg, Toni
Toni Renberg is a team leader of Multilingual Communications at Wallac Oy, PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences. Toni coordinates the daily operations and development of a team responsible for creating and updating multilingual instructions for use for medical devices and translation services. In addition to coordinating the daily operations of his multilingual team, Toni plays a key role in driving localization process development including outsourcing at Wallac Oy. Tomi holds a masters degree in translation studies from Turku University in Finland.

Rinsche, Adriane
Adriane Rinsche has a Ph.D. in computational linguistics from Bonn University, Germany. She founded LTC in 1992, a company based in London and Washington, D.C. Adriane implemented the commercial use of translation memory technology as early as 1994, trained corporate users and translators in this technology and designed the LTC Organiser. She leads the design of LTC's software systems such as LTC Worx and LTC Communicator.

Ritchie, Phil
Phil Ritchie is VistaTEC’s chief technology officer. His localization career started 15 years ago when he managed the internationalization and localization of Alias Research's architectural modeling software. He moved on to hold senior management roles at SDL and ITP. Phil directs the development of tools and customization of processes to fit the requirements of VistaTEC’s clients.

Rotshtein, Semion
Semion Rotshtein is the CTO of Multilingual QA Ltd. Prior to joining Multilingual QA Ltd., Semion was a senior member of the internationalization development team at Mercury Interactive (HP), and lead internationalization and localization processes for over 20 localized product releases. Semion received his MBA from Tel Aviv University and MSc Degree in Computer Science from Moscow State University.

Sachse, Florian
Florian Sachse is one of the founders and managing director of PASS Engineering GmbH. He is one of the the chief developers of the localization suite PASSOLO. His focus is Microsoft .NET, and he has been the trainer for several .NET trainings with TILP's "Ask the Expert" sessions. Florian is a member of diverse organizations such as OASIS, GALA and TILP, and served on the advisory board for the Localization World Conference in Bonn. He is one of partners in the European Union projects IGNITE, DANDELION and eColoTrain, all dedicated to standards in the localization process. Florian likes to share his know-how with an interested audience either at conferences or by writing articles about software internationalization and localization.

Schäler, Reinhard
Reinhard Schäler has been involved in the localization industry in a variety of roles since 1987. He is the founder and editor of Localisation Focus — The International Journal of Localisation, a founding editor of the Journal of Specialised Translation (JosTrans), a former member of the editorial board of Multilingual (Oct 97 to Jan 07, covering 70 issues), a founder and CEO of The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP), a member of the OASIS Technical Committee on the XML-based Localisation Interchange File Format (XLIFF) and the OASIS Technical Committee on Translation Web Services. He joined the International Unicode Conference Committee in 2005 and 2006 coordinating a localization stream for the Unicode Conferences. In 2005, he launched together with Pat Hall the Global Initiative for Local Computing (GILC). He is a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) at the University of Limerick (UL), and the founder and director of the Localisation Research Centre (LRC) at UL, established in 1995 as the information, educational, and research centre for the localisation community.

Schils, Clio
Clio Schils is manager of linguistics and publishing in the Technical Literature Translation Services Group of Medtronic in The Netherlands. She is responsible for the quality of the translation and localization of medical, technical and marketing documentation for the Europe, Middle East and Africa market. Parallel to her ongoing responsibilities at Medtronic, she also joined the Localization World conference organizing team as the coordinator of the preconference Medical Localization Round Table sessions. Starting as a translator after her studies in Brussels, Clio gained 20 years of experience in the translation field and joined Medtronic in May 2000. Before joining Medtronic, she worked as a Greek translator for the IMPs (Integrated Mediterranean Programs) of the European Union in Athens and spent four years in California, working as a freelance translation project manager. Clio holds a masters degree in interpretation in Greek/German/Dutch.

Sharma, Hemant C.
Hemant C. Sharma has over 18 years of experience in the IT industry starting with his employment at Microsoft as part of the Visual Basic product development team in Redmond, Washington. He also established the Microsoft Consulting Practice and the Product Support Services Divisions in India. In his various roles, he has interfaced with customers, government bodies and industry associations to create a strong brand for Trisoft worldwide.

Shaw, Ken
As manager of process and communications for NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG) Europe, Ken Shaw manages the flow of information to NMHG's dealers in Europe, Middle East and Asia, including product, service and parts information. NMHG is one of the global top three manufacturers of forklift trucks, and markets its products under the Hyster and Yale brand names.

Sikes, Richard
Richard Sikes has been immersed in localization since 1989, having held senior localization management positions at several industry-leading software publishers. He now works as a freelance localization management trainer and consultant. As well as his ongoing association with The Localization Institute, Richard is a Certified PASSOLO Trainer and is currently acting director of sales and marketing for KCSL, Inc., a localization and web search technology provider. He holds a BA in fine arts from UCI, Diplom Betriebswirt FH from the Folkshochschule Heidelberg, and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Steegen, Sigrid
Sigrid Steegen is localization project manager at Gambro BCT in Brussels, Belgium. She is responsible for localizing and printing promotional documentation for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and coordinates the internal in-country reviewers. Having worked as a translator, she is particularly interested in translation automation solutions.

Tormes, Elisa
As marketing manager, Elisa Tormes develops and implements Tek’s marketing strategy. She joined Tek with over two decades of marketing experience. Prior to Tek, she was director of marketing at Bowne Global Solutions. She joined Bowne Global Solutions during their acquisition of Mendez and integrated the marketing activities of both companies. At Mendez, she was director of worldwide marketing where she created and implemented the marketing strategy for Europe and the United States. Elisa holds a degree in i ndustrial e nginee ring, ( Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales) from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. In addition, she successfully completed sales and marketing training at the London Business School.

Van Assche, Gert
Gert Van Assche joined ITP Europe in 2004 as operations and IT manager. He became responsible for the optimization of translation, DTP and publishing services for Japanese automotive companies such as Toyota, Mitsubishi and Denso. Thanks to some unique processes and a very extensive engineering of SGML and XML, the company increased the translation volume from just 3 to 50 million source words per month and from 2 to 8 target languages. New technologies are only implemented at ITP Europe when proven to have a positive effect on quality and when they influence at least the cost or the production speed. In 2007 statistical machine translation was added to speed up the human translation process of repair manuals by 40%.

van der Meer, Jaap
Jaap van der Meer is a member of the Localization World management team. A co-founder and director of the Translation Automation User Society (TAUS), he is also co-founder and partner of Cross Language. Jaap started his first translation company in The Netherlands in 1980, and in 1987 he published the first desktop translation memory software. Jaap co-founded the SAE TopTec Multilingual Communications Conference for the automotive industry and was president and CEO of ALPNET.

Weih, Christian
Christian Weih studied English literature, linguistics and business administration at the University of Mannheim, Germany. As sales director of across Systems, he advises customers on questions of translation workflows, terminology and translation-oriented writing.

White, Beverley
Beverley White is the engineering manager at Canon Localization Services. Canon Localization Services (CLS), a dedicated localization division that operates as part of Canon Technology Europe Ltd, is responsible for localizing products for various worldwide Canon companies. Beverley has six years' experience in the localization industry and is responsible for setting the strategy and direction for the CLS Engineering Team. She also manages the CLS Transtec Team that is responsible for the terminology management of all projects that are carried out by the division.

Wuermeling, Joachim
Joachim Wuermeling has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology since 2005. He has served as a member of the EU Constitutional Convention, Member of the European Parliament. Joachim is Lecturer for European Law at the University of Bayreuth and Examiner for the First State Law Examination in Bayreuth. He was previously at the Bavarian State Chancellery in Munich as head of the Division for Relations to the European Institutions, assistant to the Minister President in the EU Committee of the Regions, Head of the Division for Basic European Policy Issues, Council of Ministers. Joachim holds a master of European Law, International and Comparative Law from the European University Institute, Florence.

Yewell, Smith
Smith Yewell founded Welocalize in 1997. He won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2004 and guided Welocalize to win Deloitte & Touche's "Technology Fast 50" Program in Maryland 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Smith holds a BA in English from Tulane University and received the US Army Bronze Star in Operation Desert Storm.

Zerfaß, Angelika
Angelika Zerfaß holds a degree in translation (Chinese/Japanese) from the University of Bonn. She worked at the Japanese Embassy in Bonn, Germany, before joining TRADOS in 1997. She was responsible for the training and support for Microsoft projects using TRADOS tools (1998 in Japan, 1999 in the United States). Since 2000, she has worked freelance as a trainer and consultant for translation tools and related processes.
