One of the reasons that people attend Localization World is for the networking opportunities. Besides the exhibit hall with areas for impromptu meetings, ample time set aside between sessions, and at lunches, the conference offered two special occasions to allow attendees to relax and get to know each other while also getting a sampling of the local food and culture.

The opening reception for Localization World is a great way to make initial contacts for the conference. The complimentary reception is open to all attendees. This year we held the opening reception at the quaint historic restaurant and biergarten Zollpackhof. This restaurant is within walking distance at just 1.9 km (1.2 miles) from the Hotel Maritim proArte. Here is a printable map that contains both social event locations and the hotel for reference.

Since the reception was so close to the conference hotel, it was easy for late arrivals to still attend. Light snacks and refreshments were served. This was, as always, a fun time and an opportunity to greet old friends and meet new ones.

Historic Berlin Dinner Cruise sponsored by Lionbridge

Attendees experienced the sites of Berlin along the Spree River as the went for dinner aboard the cruise ship MS Mark Brandenburg. We started and returned at a dock near the Maritim proArte on Friedrichstrasse. Once aboard, we felt free to unwind on the outside upper decks or enjoy the view from the dining rooms.

This three-hour cruise took us through historical downtown Berlin in the direction of the Schlossbrücke (Palace-Bridge). We sailed past the Reichstag (Parliament), the Government Quarters, including the Federal Chancellor’s office, the Hall of Congress, the Castle Belevue, and the Zoo. The trip then turned and traveled back through Museum Island, past the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) and through the historical heart of Berlin, the Nikolai Quarters.

Attendees dressed casually and came ready for a good time and great networking. Tickets for the dinner cruise must have been purchased in advance. Cost was 50€ per person. Attendees registered online or contacted Bonnie Merrell at bonnie@localizationworld.com.

Important logistical information: We began boarding at 18.30 to allow enough time for everyone to board before departure. It was a quick walk to the boarding station. Here is a printable map that contains both social event locations and the hotel for reference.
