The conference will be held at the Maritim proArte. The negotiated rates for the conference are €175 for a single and €208 for a double. These rates include VAT and breakfast. Attendees should book their rooms by calling the hotel directly at (+49) 30 20 33 4410 or by e-mail. Attendees should reference the “Local” room block. Rooms should be reserved by 23 April 2010 to ensure this pricing and availability.
The Maritim proArte served as one of two elite hotels that catered to high government officials and visiting dignitaries during the German Democratic Republic period (aka East Germany). It then operated under the name Metropol. It is situated in central Berlin a few blocks from the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the river Spree, and down the street from the former Checkpoint Charlie, just to mention a few landmarks.
After the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, the hotel was acquired by the West German Maritim chain of business and conference hotels and renovated at considerable expense. It sports a modern style with lots of light wood and chrome. Works of original modern art – some quite large – are displayed throughout the hotel.
This is a historic hotel, with modern features geared toward a pleasant conference experience. The guest rooms are nicely appointed, and the rate we negotiated for our attendees includes breakfast.
